Undo a closed tab in Safari 5
I love that I can now easily reopen the most recent tab I’ve closed in Safari 5 using Cmd+Z, the system-wide command for for “undo.” Such a life saver.

Copy a screenshot to the clipboard instead of the...
Many people are familiar with the Command+Shift+4 keyboard shortcut to access Mac OS X’s screenshot tool. This command lets you drag around an area of the screen to capture it as a PNG file on your desktop (use Command+Shift+3 to snap your entire display at once). If you press Space after invoking this command, you can capture any open window that you mouse over and click on. If you...

DigitalColor Meter no longer adds quotes when...
When using DigitalColor Meter, and using the “Copy as text” command (Shift + Command + C), the copied code is now purely hex, with no ” ” around the value (so #FFFFFF rather than “#FFFFFF”).  This is a huge time saver when using any Adobe app, or writing CSS.

Safari has smart plain text URL detection
If you are reading text in at least Safari 4 or later which contains a web address in plain text (it isn’t actually linked), you can highlight the URL, then right-click to reveal 3 custom sub-menus: “Go To Address”, “Go To Address in new Window” and “Go To Address in New Tab.” You can try it on the URLs on this page, because we can’t try it...

No more mistakes with Shift+Caps Lock
If the Caps Lock is on and you press Shift and a letter key, the letter is not lowercased. This is great for avoiding those muscle-memory mistakes when writing in all caps. This works in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, and possibly previous versions.

Finder tries squeezing long filenames before...
If you shrink the “Name” column in a Finder window that is in “List” view (by dragging the divider between column headers), Finder copes with the reduced space by replacing characters in the middle of the filenames with “…”   However, just before it resorts to this, it tries to fit the longest name in by squeezing the font. For example, in the screenshot...

MobileMe Mail's compose window is now... →
via Finer Things in Web: Like the unofficial Gmail bookmarklets, you can now bookmark the ‘compose new message’ window of MobileMe Mail. As long as you’re logged in, visiting the link above will create a new composition window with all the contact auto-complete and rich text editing tools you need. Strangely, while sending a message from this window seems to work, the window does not appear to...

iTunes gets smart playlist rating bug fix
The latest version of iTunes has an improvement that has made me tremendously happy. Until iTunes 9.2, if you had a smart playlist parameter that said the song had to be unrated (un-starred), and — while listening to the playlist — you rated a song, the playlist would stop immediately because the just-rated song would disappear from it. In the new version if you rate a playing song...

If you’re already listening to a track in iTunes from your library or from a particular playlist, you can right-click and use the “Play Next in iTunes DJ” command to move it to the front of the iTunes DJ queue without interrupting the song. iTunes will switch to iTunes DJ mode while continuing to play the track.
