Ink warnings can be displayed in the print dialog

As of at least 10.4 Tiger, a low ink printer warning can be displayed in the system wide Print dialog box.

Editor’s note: I suspect this does not work for all printers from all manufacturers. It may be limited to the printers Apple supports with built-in Software Updates, or perhaps even a subset of those.

  1. This also works in 10.4. It’s a printer driver feature.

  2. Yes, and I see this warning since 6 months and I’m frequently printing. For me the indicator is slightly broken.

    • Same here, but the ink levels displayed on the printer’s screen itself also say it has low ink (or *may* have low ink). I guess OS X can only be as accurate as the printer, which seems really inaccurate. :(
