Camino and Safari: Quick keyboard access to the Bookmarks Bar

Camino_iconYou can quickly open the first nine links on the Bookmark Bars of Camino and Safari by hitting Command+1 through Command+9.

Editor’s note: This is quite useful, especially if you use bookmarklets that do things, like send the current URL to Tweetie for sharing on Twitter or save the page to Evernote.

  1. I much prefer Firefox's behavior, which maps command+(number) to the tabs. Command-1 goes to the first tab, command-2 to the second, and so on. It's one of the things I'm used to that really messes with me when I have to use Safari. I'll hit command-1 to go to my first tab, and it will instead change the current tab to a different site.

  2. my God, i thought you were going to chip in with some decisive insght at the end there, not leave it with ‘we leave it to you to decide’.

  3. Unadulterated words, some unadulterated words dude. Thanks for making my day!!

  4. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. As a Safari user, I hate how this behavior is reversed in Firefox. :)

On a related note: I wonder how this works on Windows 7 now, as Windows key + a number opens the corresponding app in the new Dock-like taskbar.
