Right-click to uninstall third-party System Preferences panes

System Preferences uninstall panes

To quickly delete a third-party System Preferences pane like Growl, Perian, or Flip4Mac, you can just right-click it and click the “Remove…” option that appears. This may be faster for some users versus trying to track the pane’s actual file down in Finder under either /Library/PreferencePanes or ~/Library/PreferencePanes. This works on 10.6 Snow Leopard, 10.5 Leopard, 10.4 Tiger, and probably earlier versions as well.

  1. On my Snow Leopard, only Ctrl-Click brings up the popup "Remove…" menu item to remove third-party System Preferences. Right-clicking just launches the preference pane.

  2. Sounds like you need to enable right-click for your Mouse in your System Preferences Mouse pane. Right-click is not enabled on Macs by default, even in 10.6 Snow Leopard.

  3. Actually, I do have Right-Click enabled in the Mouse Preference Pane. Well, the Microsoft Mouse Preference Pane. I have an intellipoint mouse, so I use that preference pane to control what the mouse does.

I guess its possible that since I use a Microsoft Mouse, that right-clicks work differently than if the mouse were a Mighty or Magic Mouse.
