It used to be the case that Mac OS would play a sound when e.g. moving an item from one folder to another. (Maybe it still does, but one of the first things I do on any install is turn off those sounds, so I haven't checked lately). However, back in the day, there was no spatial information conveyed in the stereo image — e.g., dragging something from a left-hand window to a right-hand one should have sounded appropriately, but did not. Has this been fixed?
In Mac OS 8 you could turn on sounds for the UI: things such as opening a menu or dragging items. The sounds were played in stereo depending on where the action on the screen happened. It was quite slick. Like so many other things, it didn't make it to Mac OS X. Unlike, say, Spring Loaded folders, it still hasn't been ported and maybe it never will. Oh well.

The Mail.app 'mail sent' sound is also in stereo — it swoops from the left to right speaker. Very cool.
I particularly like the Unison sound when sending a message. A very nice stereo effect.
