Impress your friends with slow-mo Mac OS X animations

Slow-moAnimations-1

Hold the Shift key when launching Exposé, Spaces, Dashboard, minimizing a window into the Dock, or even when using a Dock Stack, and you will get a slow version of the feature’s animation. This has worked at least as far back as Mac OS X 10.3 Panther, and probably earlier.

  1. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's been there since at least 10.1.. And to this day, it still rocks!

  2. This has been in OS X since at least the Public Beta. I like to call this one the “Steve Effect”. I'm betting it was put in so Steve could demonstrate the cool graphics capabilities in Mac OS X.

  3. Oh, and how I wish wish wish wish wish wish wish wish there was a way to turn that feature OFF! :)

  4. Why? Do you want some other behavior to happen when holding Shift and invoking these features? Or are you simply a “chronic shifter?” It's ok, you can tell us. :)

  5. I'm a cute shifter :)
