Finder can display application version numbers
As of at least 10.5 Leopard, Finder can display an application’s version number when selected in Column view. This is handy if you need to check or compare versions of apps without opening them.
I noticed that it doesn’t do it for all apps – I’m guessing the version number needs to be properly coded into the app’s metadata by the developer for Finder to recognise and display it.
